Key West is a great kids' trip — small, walkable, plenty of water, and most operators run kid-friendly tours. The trick is avoiding the late-night Duval Street energy and picking the right water trips. Here's the locals' shortlist.

Butterfly Conservatory (consistently the highest-rated attraction on TripAdvisor). Key West Aquarium. Mallory Square at sunset (jugglers, escape artists, the cat man). Glass-bottom boat trips. Calm-water sandbar trips.
Best beach for kids
Higgs Beach (calm, has a shaded playground and pier). Smathers (bigger, more amenities, but no shade). Fort Zachary is the prettiest — clear water, picnic pavilions — but it's deeper at the shoreline.
Where to stay
Casa Marina or The Reach (sister oceanfront hotels with pools, sand, and family suites). Sunset Key Cottages if you want a private island. Mid-Town vacation rentals if you want a kitchen and a yard.
