Key West on a cruise ship day: what you can fit in

By Brian Williamson, Key West · Updated October 2, 2026

    The short answer

Plan backwards from your ship's all-aboard time, not its arrival time. Pick one main thing, choose a trip whose listed end time leaves you a comfortable buffer to get back to your dock, and keep the rest of the day walkable. Old Town is compact, so on a short stop you can see a lot on foot. Tour times are set by each operator — confirm the return time before you book, because we can't guarantee you'll make the ship.

    Where ships dock

Key West's cruise docks are run by the city and private operators; the City of Key West's Port & Marine page lists the docks and links to the live schedules for Mallory Square and Pier B. Know which dock you're at — it affects how long it takes to get back.

Use Help Me Choose with a return time

In Help Me Choose, tick "I have to be back by a set time" and enter your all-aboard time. Every result then lists timing as something to confirm with the operator — we never mark a trip as guaranteed to get you back.

Booking independently vs. through the ship

Booking directly with a local operator often gives you more choice, but the timing is your responsibility. Choose trips with a clear return time and leave a buffer.

    Common questions

Where do I find the Key West cruise ship schedule?

On the City of Key West's Port & Marine page, which links to the live schedules for Mallory Square and Pier B.

How much time do I need for a boat trip on a port day?

Add the trip's listed duration, its check-in time before departure, travel to and from the dock, and a buffer before all-aboard. If that doesn't fit comfortably, pick a shorter trip or stay on land.

Will a tour make sure I get back to my ship?

Operators set their own schedules. Confirm the return time with the operator before you book; we can't guarantee you'll make the ship.
